Outreach Programs

SOS is a non-profit organization aimed at building character and self-esteem in youth through outdoor activities and the SOS curriculum. SOS program integrates 5 core values: courage, discipline, integrity, wisdom and compassion.

No matter what social, societal, or economic barriers exist—SOS Outreach believes every child deserves the opportunity to thrive. They start with powerful outdoor experiences. Because it’s on the slopes or the trail that kids unearth the courage to step outside of their comfort zones, discover new strengths within themselves and develop lifelong skills. Through their proven 10-year curriculum, they empower kids in our communities to discover their true potential. Serving 4,000+ youth each year, across 15 locations in 9 states, SOS provides opportunities for personal growth for the kids in our communities who need it most. Big City Mountaineers helps to increase access to transformative outdoor experiences for young people ages 8-18 from disinvested communities across America. BCM focuses on removing the barriers students may face when seeking outdoor opportunities, so all BCM experiences are free of charge, professionally guided, and thoughtfully equipped for each participant. Students are able to explore and connect with their intrinsic strengths, resilience, and self-efficacy while in the backcountry, bringing these capabilities to life back at home. Big City Mountaineers works in partnership with youth development agencies based in each of the 6 cities where BCM operates programs to create relevant programs that foster meaningful growth and joy.
